Your support will provide student interns with hands-on exhibit installation experience working with guest curators and museum professionals. Donations will also fund related student and public programming on Art, Graphic Design, Indigenous Studies, Museum Studies, and more. With your help, PIVOT: Skateboard Deck Art will open Wednesday, March 25 and run throughout 2020.

PIVOT: Skateboard Deck Art is a 3D art exhibit curated by artists Duane Koyawena (Hopi) and Landis Bahe (Diné ). The exhibit features nearly 100 unique pieces by thirty Native artists from across the Southwest and beyond.
From traditional carvers to contemporary painters, the decks on display represent a pivotal moment in Native American art, as traditional imagery and techniques meet modern interpretations and canvases.
This exhibit also includes programming opportunities on topics important to Fort Lewis College students, area schools, and local communities. Guest curators will offer presentations on Art, Graphic Design, Indigenous Studies, Museum Studies, and more along with potential Mental and Behavioral Health Workshops co-hosted with local mental health professionals.
INTERNSHIPS at the CENTER OF SOUTHWEST STUDIES
The Center of Southwest Studies offers students experiential learning opportunities. Students will play a key role in the exhibit’s installation and will gain knowledge and experience from the guest curators, a professional exhibit preparator, and Center staff. These experiences have set up past students for successful transitions to graduate studies and professional careers in the museum field.
